Parish Nossa Senhora da Conceição

Brother Levy has been living in the Conceição de Muqui district of the town of Mimoso do Sul (State of Espírito Santo) since 2014, until recently together with Brother Romão. The parish area is vast, and a few years ago it had only a few asphalt roads, no treated water and a very precarious electricity supply. The rivalry between the families was great. So it was a matter of pastoral care for the two Brothers not only to exercise their priestly ministry, but also to visit the families.

Our two Brothers succeeded in conveying to the families that you can only change something acting together. The population was very neglected by the public sector. Brother Romão visited the families and prayed with them in the houses, and Brother Levy celebrated masses in the chapels in the countryside. For two years they visited all the families in the parish, always with the aim of promoting unity. Thanks to this awareness-raising work, the district has meanwhile achieved the asphalting of the road to the town and the presence of a doctor.

Today there is an effort to strengthen the district’s economy through the cultivation of coffee, to improve its production and quality, and also to promote tourism. This happens through events and festivals such as the Beiju Festival (beijus are mandioc flour pancakes with various fillings), a festivity with mixed religious and culinary activities in which our Brothers also cooperate.
